About

I’m Owen Gregory, a copy editor. I fix sentences and paragraphs to help all kinds of writers get their words ready for publication.

I’m an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). This means I have the training, experience and knowledge necessary to achieve the highest level of membership, and I abide by the CIEP professional practice code.

Experience

I started my copy-editing career in 2010, and have since worked with dozens of writers on their books, chapters and articles. I’ve edited books for small, independent publishers and self-publishing authors, and I’ve edited academic books in the humanities, arts, and social sciences.

Education

I have an MA in Writing (Distinction) from Nottingham Trent University. Prior to that, I studied for my BA (Hons) in English Studies at the University of Nottingham.

Training

  • Development Editing: Fiction Theory (Liminal Pages)
  • Introduction to Fiction Editing (CIEP)
  • Copy-editing 3, Progress (Society for Editors and Proofreaders)
  • Copy-editing 2, Headway (SfEP)

Interests

As well as reading imaginative/creative/narrative non-fiction and literary fiction (and a slew of far more exciting books with my eight-year-old son), I also read music: I play oboe and cor anglais with Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra, ‘the finest non-professional orchestra in the land’.

Following a good stint as a web designer, I have specific expertise in all aspects of front-end web design and development. Over the past decade, this combination has led me to edit and copy-edit over twenty-five books for many well-respected figures in the web industry.

Full Cream Milk?

That's right. The business name has stuck around since my web designing days. When I moved into copy editing, it seemed a shame to lose it. It's fresh, wholesome, hearty, good for you — apologies to anyone with dairy intolerance (and vegans) — and delivered exactly when you need it, right to your doorstep.
